Battling Diabetes

I am very excited about working on Battling Diabetes and would like to thank the HART-Empire Network for this opportunity. I have followed Julie E. Fletcher’s posts closely and really enjoyed this community. Many thanks to Julie for her hard work. She challenges me to dig deep to maintain the quality of this blog.

When I began the Battling Cancer blog I said that the subject is a facet of who I am. It doesn’t define me but it definitely shapes me and guides my life. The same is true of diabetes.

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with diabetics in the in-patient hospital settings. Patients who were hospitalized to manage their diabetes or those for whom diabetes was simply a diagnostic tag, not the reason they were in-patients. A very fun part of my prior nursing career was home-health nursing. Being welcomed into patients home’s and having the opportunity to meet their unique needs in a more relaxed setting was a wonderful opportunity. I did a great deal of teaching with newly diagnosed diabetics.

Finally, on a more personal note, I had a delightful maternal Italian grandmother who was a diabetic. Her disease took her much too soon. Every day I am conscious of that.

I have many questions and look forward to fully exploring this changing topic with readers of Battling Diabetes.

I will begin by laying a foundation, exploring the archives and starting a daily quest to not only research new and changing technologies and information on the subject of diabetes, but to deliver this information with a fresh approach.Thanks for joining me.
